This obviates the risk of a reaming size drill cutting oversize due to inaccurate point grinding or flexing under load. When drilling holes for reaming it is best to use a smaller drill first then drill to reaming drill size before using the reamer. So would it be ok to use a hand reamer in a machine, as long as you withdrew it periodically? It's amazing how much there is to learn about apparently simple tools. For this reason I tend to use them when the finish in a hole is the most important consideration. I have noticed that all my reamers give a relatively easy fit on silver steel of the same nominal size. I have considered cutting off the end and regrinding it as a machine reamer - that seems a lot easier than grinding off an awful lot of metal to restore the lead, also I could do the former without making a flute grinding attachment for my grinder. It still works, as the chips were near the tip of the lead, and it didn't affect it where it cuts full size. I will bear in mind what you say about periodically withdrawing hand reamers - i did manage to chip a couple of the cutting edges on one once, and still have no idea what caused it. Ive already drilled an 8. I do use my reamers faster than I used to, but it looks like I should step up another gear! Hi guys, I am fitting a BXA toolpost to my new lathe and tomorrows job is to drill and ream a 12mm hole about 40mm deep in the centre of the 16mm bolt I bought today. I can't imagine plunging a 1/2" reamer into steel at 400 rpm and 8 metres a minute!Īll but one of my reamers are hand reamers, although i think the smallest ones (3/16" and smaller are parallel flute and possibly really count as parallel broaches). When reaming soft materials like plastics, aluminum, and some steels, a slightly smaller hole may be needed to ensure. For example, if the reamer has a diameter of 10 mm, the hole would need to be 9.5-10.0 mm in diameter. I hadn't appreciated that hand reamers can cut on the end (like a machine reamer) as well as the taper before. In general, a typical twist drill should have a diameter that is approximately 0.5-1. Possibly a little high looking at the reference (excellent by the way) supplied by Gray. Note: Always use coolant and peck drilling to aid with chip evacuation. I generally leave about 1/64" (all my reamers are imperial). Thanks Gray, ive down loaded that info& kept copy in the workshop. 5 50 49 48-Size Drill Size in mm Drill Size Pitch Pitch in mm Metric. Makes it worth getting up in the morning.Hi guys, would there be a drilling, reaming, chart guide i could download? Welcome to the club, I've been working with metal for more than 60 years and learn new things all the time. The rest of humanity does just fine with good enough. They are for use in drill presses, turret lathes, screw machines, and other machine tools. Available in metric sizes, these tools let you drill and ream holes with the same tool. Worry about perfection when you're making watches or space craft. Metric Size Combination Drill Bit/Round-ShankReamers for Taper-Pin Holes. That way when you drill a hole you NEED to be right you'll have practice. What I'd recommend is you pick a length of that stock and drill holes through it full length for practice. Ease off the pressure when you feel it starting to break through. I think you know what the basic necessities are, turn the drill speed down turning fast is not a good thing, add one or two drops of oil to help the cuttings clear the hole and keep a steady pressure on the bit. A clean hole where you need it is a success. In reality coming out suitable for the job is the correct metric. We all had fantasies about our first project being some sort of wonderful. Ah HAH, a first project! As good as you can get it will change as you make more, drilling holes is about as basic a skill as reading a scale or using a hack saw.

Video clips are now overlayed and I have to find them to seperate them, audio is no longer aligned with the video, text and extra audio is all over the place. What’s worse is I tried editing a video clip at the very beginning and it messed up EVERYTHING. Suddenly it takes about an hour to load and process the files when it didn’t even take a minute before, and it crashes after about a minute or two. I recently finished the first draft of a video, about a months worth of work, and everything was going smoothly until I started trying to go back through from the beginning again. It can do a lot and is really easy to figure out, but is a nightmare once you finish what youre working on. I hate admitting it but this thing has made me cry multipe times over multiple projects. We hope to hear from you soon and apologize for any inconveniences you've had. We do have a way you can report these issues so that our development team can investigate it located here: īut for overall concerns with our software, please message our support team here (for assistance, for suggestions about UI, to address concerns that have made you reconsider the full product, etc.): We appreciate it as we are always aiming to improve our software. Thank you for taking the time to give us your well thought out feedback. If a log is needed for figuring out the crashes, feel free to respond with how and where to send, and I will do so promptly. ~~ I will gladly update this review if these issues are revised. In short, don’t expect the world from a free video editing app and dont expect it’ll get better just because you paid. The year is 2018, and a facelift would be a bit more welcoming. I grew up using a variety of command line-only apps, so it certainly can be worse. The second, though nitpicking, is the app is pretty dated UI-wise. There’s no worse purchase than food you don’t like, but spending money on a video app that prevents you from completing the task is a close second. Yes, there is an autosave, but, with my minute long video project, if I try to shorten any of the audio clips, the app crashes. The biggest, and most frustrating, is crashing. I’ve came so close to paying the $99 to fully experience VideoPad, but some of the lackluster qualities of it have really made me reconsider. The limitations are saving files in high resolutions (I believe anything over 1200x1200), no audio FX (minus fading in / fading out) and a few others. I’ve used the free version of VideoPad Video Editor to get by on small projects without much of an issue. VideoPad Video Editor definitely isn’t $500 (currently $99), and, while it is pretty intuitive, it’s not without shortcomings. Let me guess, you’re looking for a video editing app that isn’t $500 and is easy to use. I consider Sticky Password a privacy-friendly password manager that’ll protect your data. Privacy - Sticky Password Protects Your Personal Data and Is GDPR Compliant While it may lack a compromised password checker, it has every other security feature you would want in a high-end password manager and will definitely keep your passwords and sensitive information safe. Overall, I consider Sticky Password a very secure and reliable password manager. Other password managers like 1Password will tell you if any of your passwords have been leaked in a security breach but this vital feature is missing in Sticky Password. The security dashboard is very helpful but one thing that it’s missing is a compromised passwords section. Sticky Password has a helpful security dashboard that tells you how safe your passwords are The password length can be up to 99 characters, which is more than enough to ensure a secure password. You can set your password length, the characters they use, and several other things. It will generate strong passwords and you can even customize the type of passwords you want it to generate. Sticky Password offers a reliable secure password generator that you can use at any time. 1Password offers authentication through USB tokens like YubiKey so I recommend checking it out if that’s your preferred authentication method. Something I would’ve liked to see in Sticky Password is support for additional TOTP apps like Authy and other 2FA methods like USB tokens. The app will then give you the steps that you can follow on the Google Authenticator app to enable 2FA. I was able to set up 2FA from Sticky Password’s settings menuĪll you have to do to set it up is download Google Authenticator, open security in Sticky Password’s settings, and click enable under two-factor authentication. Accounts opened on your browser will be saved in the web accounts tab and desktop apps you log into will be saved in the app account. One of the convenient things about the Sticky Password Windows app is that it organizes web accounts and app accounts into their own tabs. It lets you store logins for websites that you open on your browser and app accounts for any apps installed on your devices. You can use Sticky Password to save your passwords and all sorts of other information. Safe Storage for All Kinds of Sensitive Information So, you’ll lose all your saved information and will have to reset your entire account if you lose your master password. There isn’t any way to recover it because it isn’t stored anywhere. I want to highlight here that it’s crucial to memorize your master password if you use Sticky Password. This makes you the only person who can access your information and makes sure that no one else can get their hands on it. The master password used to decrypt and access your information isn’t stored anywhere either, even on Sticky Password’s servers. It uses AES 256-bit encryption to secure your information, offers incredibly reliable auto-fill features, and delivers very well-designed apps. Sticky Password is a safe and easy-to-use password manager. With so much going for it, I decided to try this password manager to see how it holds up and was delighted with my experience. This app is built for beginners who want to learn to create pixel art, but don’t know where to start. Online pixel art apps like this one allow you to create pixel art on a simple grid and instantly share it with friends. Professional pixel artists generally use expensive software like Adobe Photoshop to create their art and sprites, but of course, this is not necessary for a beginner. People who draw and paint pixel art are (predictably) called pixel artists. These are usually indie games, or games where a pixel art style makes the game more visually appealing. Presently, there are still many games which employ a pixel art style. Of course, as screen resolution increased and computing power became better, the pixellated quality of game art assets became less visible. Due to these constraints, all early computer games had to use pixel art for their visual elements. After black and white came 8-bit colour, leading to the distinctive 8-bit pixel art that we know today. Their colour values were also restricted to a small subset of the colours used on computers today. Pixel images were originally the only type of image which could be displayed on computers due to resolution constraints. The painting style known as " pointillism" is also very similar to pixel art. However, the concept of pixel art may go back thousands of years with traditional art forms such as cross-stitching (or more generally, counted-thread embroidery) which uses small units which can be filled with thread to create a pattern or “drawing” of sorts. Pixel art, as it is known today, goes back at least as far as 1972 when Richard Shoup wrote SuperPaint and with the Xerox PARC software. This will give you a link which other people can use to edit your pixel art. To do this, you simply need to start drawing your pixel art, and when you’re finished, click the save button, give your art a name and description, and then click the submit button. You can create a pixel art template which others can use to create characters and avatars easily. Pixel Art Editor: Create and use templates!Īs well as being able to create pixel art from scratch, you can also edit pixel are that others have created. That said, the convenience of being able to create pixel are in your browser may just make it worthwhile, at least for sketching and having fun. For example, you need to have an internet connection, and also, websites are inherently slower than software which runs on your computer. There are some disadvantages to drawing pixel art online, though. Instead, you visit this website and can instantly start drawing pixels. The primary benefit is that it’s really easy to get started since there’s no need to download software onto your computer. There are benefits and disavantages of making pixel art on a website. In any case, it’s worth doing a Google search to check out the other pixel art tools since they might suit your needs better. This tool uses HTML5 and JavaScript so that you get a smooth experience, and don’t need plugins. There are a few other pixel art programs on the internet, but they mostly use Flash rather than JavaScript. You can get straight to work drawing your favourite characters like mario, goku, batman and sonic. This pixel art maker lets you do exactly that. You’ve probably stumbled across this online app in your quest to find a freeware pixel editor which lets you easily draw pixel art for free. If you’re a pixel art creator and would like to have a bit more control over your drawings, then you might find tools like Photoshop useful as an alternative to this online pixel art program. If you like making pixel art, and need an online drawing app like this, then hopefully it lives up to your expectations. Pixel Art Maker (PAM) is designed for beginners, and pros who just want to whip something up and share it with friends. Roger (his former captain) that was synonymous with his image until he passed it on to Luffy. More consistently stays his facial hair, however, as he has always kept it in a neatly thin connection of beard and mustache stubble, forming the beginnings of a circle beard.Ĭlothes-wise, Shanks used to wear a certain straw hat obtained from Gol D. Later appearances show him more markedly countenanced, the square of his jaw, the sharper, narrower pair of eyes, and the chiseled, more prominently bridged nose lending him a manlier appearance. Its features were similarly milder than later depictions and, save for his small nose, also larger, most so his plain black eyes, topped by thin brows. As did his hair, Shanks' face changes as the manga's art style progresses: initially, it appeared more youthful, a soft jawline tapering down to a small, pointy chin. Additionally, Shanks' left arm is missing from below the deltoid, as a result of him saving Luffy from a Sea King when the future Straw Hat captain was just a child. On his face resides a secondary trademark: a triple set of parallel, linear scars that pass vertically, at an angle over his left (untouched) eye, revealed to have been given to him by Blackbeard some unknown time before the start of the series. In later appearances (at ten years older), he is shown with slightly longer hair, wavier and more slicked back than before except for some few strands he lets fall down the sides of his face, pushed farther sideward than said prior bangs. Shanks' first-seen hairstyle was a straight, middle-parted one kept loosely down to nape length, with shorter (at eye level), curtained bangs in the front. Worthy of note is that, uniquely among all characters seen so far, even ones with a comparable hair tone, Shanks' hair is the sole one filled with grayscale in the black-and-white manga (instead of inked black or left white). True to his epithet, Shanks has distinctly red hair, usually depicted across media as a deep crimson. Among the original lineup of the Four Emperors, he stood out as the smallest, most normal-sized human by far, the others being inhumanly proportioned to varying degrees. Shanks is a tall, muscular man with a tan complexion. He and his crew also have a sizable role in One Piece Film: Red, which centers on Uta, Shanks' adoptive daughter. He is a late, but still vital ally during both the Marineford and Wano Country Arcs. Roger himself and has become Luffy's signature accessory, having gifted it to the boy as part of a promise for them to meet again someday.Įver since the beginning of the series, Shanks has been an important background character, usually being shown accompanying Luffy's ever-growing reputation as a pirate. Most notably, he also owned the straw hat that once belonged to Gol D. He also accidentally provided Luffy with the Gomu Gomu no Mi to eat, and even sacrificed his left arm to save the boy from being eaten by the Lord of the Coast out at sea. Luffy to go on his own pirate journey, thus being responsible for the boy becoming the notorious outlaw he is today. Twelve years ago, while operating in the East Blue, Shanks inspired the young village boy, Monkey D. Sailing with the Roger Pirates since he was an infant, Shanks would begin his pirate career on their ship as an apprentice alongside Buggy, before forming his own crew following Roger's death. "Red-Haired" Shanks, commonly known as just "Red Hair", is the chief of the Red Hair Pirates and one of the Four Emperors that rule over the New World. Skin tones appeared very pleasing and natural, but detail was a bit weak, say in the wrinkles on a subject's forehead. And Costco offers just three book sizes (one softcover and two hardcover). We had a few gripes with the hardcover construction - mainly the fact that you can easily see the book stitching in the furrow between pages. (For the same price, you can also get a two-pack of 8 x 8-inch softcover books.) Costco also offers the cheapest shipping by far (compared to similar delivery timeframes with rivals). But Costco's only hardcover offering is a much roomier 11.25 x 8.75-inch, 30-page version that, at $19.99 is still substantially cheaper than its smaller, 20-page competitors. Typically, we evaluate hardcover books of around 8 x 8 inches. If you order a photo book from Mixbook, be sure to check out its shipping information and deadlines.Ĭostco offers outstanding value among all the services we reviewed. And Mixbook's live tech support could be a decisive factor for frustrated creators. For photos, Mixbook provides both effects (filters) and basic image editing: brightness, saturation, and contrast (a rare capability). It also allows you to adjust borders, drop shadows, and image opacity. For instance, it provides 644 book templates to get started. However, what elevates Mixbook above other photo books is that its software is user friendly and fun, offering plenty of customization options. In reevaluating Mixbook, we have raised the scores for these criteria. The dull look of Signature Matte made colors appear a little washed out, weakened contrast, and obscured details a bit. One note: When we first reviewed Mixbook, we accidentally selected the Signature Matte page finish (a slight upgrade), instead of the default Everyday Semi-Gloss. Best to upgrade to the layflat binding if you plan to use spreads. Unfortunately, Mixbook's standard binding also swallows up some detail (like a child's face) in two-page spreads. Colors and skin tone quality is about average. The inside pages are slightly thin, but their semi-gloss finish produces strong contrast. Its matte finish captured a variety of skin tones well. Its cover tied Printique's for quality and was far ahead of all the others. Mixbook's overall quality is below Printique's, but rougly matched with the other competitors. When ordering a photo book, be sure to check out Printique's shipping information and deadlines, so you know how long to expect before it arrives.īook spreads lose a lot of the photo in the crease Printique's software has the highest learning curve of all we reviewed. With all that power comes complexity, however. These include full control of the size of text, borders, and drop shadows. Not only do you have plenty of design elements like backgrounds and stickers/clipart, but you have tremendous customization options. Printique's design software is the most powerful we evaluated. However, that finish also kicked up the most glare of all the books we reviewed. Printique owes much of its image quality to a high-grade, semigloss finish called Lustre. Colors and skin tones are especially naturalistic and pleasing. But Printique won all our image quality categories (except sharpness/detail, where it tied with Mimeo). This design naturally boosted Printique's quality scores. Layflat is an extra cost option with the other services. And its high price is mitigated by a key fact: Even Printique's entry-level book is a layflat design that is comfortable to view and allows you to see every bit of the page - especially important if you have images that span two pages. We've also included shipping information where available, as photo books take time to make - and will cost more the longer you wait to order.Īnd be sure to check out our picks for the best photo calendars and best photo cards.ĭespite its cost, Printique is our top choice for photo books. (For more details, see "How we test photo book services," at the end of this article.) Then we rated the quality of the software and price competitiveness. To account for the different aspects of a book's value, we convened a panel of judges to rate quality of the book itself. To find the best photo book service, we created books using five different online providers this year, we tested Mixbook, Printique, Shutterfly, Costco, and Mimeo. But which photo book service delivers not only the best quality images, but also provides the best tools so that you can put together the book you want without frustration? And, which allows you to make a photo book without putting too big a dent in your wallet? A photo book also provides an opportunity to deliberately arrange images to tell a story, and to embellish them with creative touches in arrangement, page backgrounds, text, clip art, and other effects. The children were thus able to enhance key learning skills, such as listening and visualization techniques, and to take part in group collaboration exercises and question/answer sessions. These guests presented on a wide range of topics that complemented the classroom curriculum and allowed students to interact with experts from outside the school. Throughout the spring, the ASA hosted several guest speakers as part of its Visiting Speakers Series. “After the presentation, students were able to compare their lives to children living in colonial times.” “The students loved learning about the daily lives of children in colonial America,” said Cathy Izzo, a social studies teacher at the ASA. In this way, the concept of “reduce, reuse, and recycle” really hit home. Students had the chance to see demonstrations up close, including antique foot-powered toaster and candle-making tools, which left them with a stronger sense of how past generations appreciated every item in their homes, as most were grown, built, or made by families themselves. Billerica Historical Society historians demonstrate old-style bread toaster. While the elementary classes at the ASA have on many occasions read about colonial life in small New England towns, the dynamic presence of the historical actors and their demonstrations brought history to life. Guests from the Billerica Historical Society visited the school and engaged students with costumes and artifacts from a bygone era. “I think it gives them a different perspective being inside,” he said.LEXINGTON, Mass.-On June 13, the Armenian Sisters’ Academy (ASA) of Lexington completed its spring 2011 Visiting Speakers Series with a presentation on colonial New England. Mary’s Principal Brian Cote said the students seemed to enjoy and benefit from the presentation, especially going into the balloon to take a look at the globe from the inside out. “For me, geography put a lot of political and social things into context.” “Initially, I got into the geography field because I thought it gave me a more complete view, an ability to learn how different policies affect the people,” he said. Recent Bridgewater State graduate Patric Anjos, who grew up in Taunton, was a part of a small group of current and former geography students who accompanied the professors Friday. Massachusetts is on top of the country in math and English, but it’s at the expense of understanding where we fit in the world.” “In Massachusetts, the geography curriculum is fairly limited,” Hayes-Bohanan said. There is currently a bill on Beacon Hill that would add more geography to K-12 curriculums, he said. The geography department, Professor James Hayes-Bohanan said, is advocating for more geography to be taught in the public schools. Four years ago, Bridgewater State established Project Earthview and has since brought more than 30,000 Massachusetts students into the giant balloon. The hand-painted globe was created by a former engineering student and is believed to be one of only two such creations in the world, Domingo said. “It’s important for people to understand.” “We travel to schools every Friday to teach about geography,” Professor Vernon Domingo explained. The perspective really shifted when they opened up a door on the International Date Line and let the students step inside for a geography lesson. Professors from Bridgewater State University’s geography department visited the elementary school Friday with a 20-foot-tall inflatable globe to give the students a new perspective on the earth. Mary’s Primary School went on a journey, of sorts, to the center of the earth. Sometimes these places were named before spelling changes took effect, but more often the spelling merely serves as an affectation. Examples include the Stonebriar Centre mall in Frisco, Texas, the cities of Rockville Centre, New York and Centreville, Illinois, and Centre College in Kentucky. In many instances, places in the United States use Centre in their names. Some cinemas outside New York use the "theatre" spelling. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in Washington, D.C., or The Kennedy Center, features the more common American spelling theater in its references to The Eisenhower Theater, part of The Kennedy Center. In 2003 the proposal of the American National Theatre, eventually to be founded and inaugurated in the fall of 2007, was referred to by the New York Times as the "American National Theater" but the organization actually uses "re" in the spelling of its name. The difference relates only to root words -er rather than -re is universal as a suffix for agentive (reader, winner, user) and comparative (louder, nicer) forms. However such dropping cannot be regarded as proof of an -re British spelling: for example, entry derives from enter, which has not been spelled entre for centuries. It is dropped for other derivations, for example, central, fibrous, spectral. Centring is a particularly interesting example, since it is still pronounced as three syllables in British English (/ˈsɛntərɪŋ/), yet there is no vowel letter in the spelling corresponding to the second syllable. In the United States, ogre and euchre are standard manoeuvre and sepulchre are usually spelled as maneuver and sepulcher and the other -re forms listed are less used variants of the equivalent -er form.Įven American-derived forms of nouns and verbs, for example, fibers, reconnoitered, centering, are, naturally, fibres, reconnoitred and centring respectively in BrE. The ending -cre, as in acre, lucre, massacre, mediocre, is preserved in American English, to indicate the c is pronounced /k/ rather than /s/.Īfter other consonants, there are not many -re endings even in British English: louvre and manoeuvre after -v meagre (but not eager) and ogre after -g and euchre, ochre, and sepulchre after -ch. Many words spelled with -re in Modern French are spelled with -er in both British and American usage among these are chapter, December, diameter, perimeter, disaster, enter, filter, letter, member, minister, monster, October, November, number, oyster, parameter, powder, proper, September, sober, and tender. Surprise surprise, there are many exceptions to the -re spelling in British usage. The difference is most common for words ending -bre or -tre: British spellings centre, kilometre, litre, lustre, mitre, nitre, reconnoitre, saltpetre, spectre, theatre, titre, calibre, fibre, sabre, and sombre all have -er in American spelling. In the USA most of these words (note "most" not all) have the more phonetic spelling of -er. In British usage, some words of French, Latin, or Greek origin end with a consonant followed by -re, the -re is actually pronounced /ər/. Double click on any word for its definition. |
